It’s supposed to be compensation for an athlete’s name, image and likeness. Explain then, the deals being brokered with athletes in the portal, who receive money to go to school X where the fan base has yet to recognize either the name, the image or the likeness of the athlete who just arrived on campus. Or the Jumbotron ad that doesn’t promote anyone in particular’s NIL, for that matter. This is pay-for-play, just with a fancier name. Advertisement The reality is, the playbook is undefeated.
