Afghan authorities say all the attackers killed and staff rescued in hours long operation after militants stormed the country’s communications ministry in Kabul

Afghan security personnel rescue men and children from the information and culture ministry after an attack near to the Telecommunication Ministry in Kabul, Afghanistan, Saturday, April 20, 2019.

The area around the building was sealed off by police as at least three attackers battled security forces, Interior Ministry spokesman Nasrat Rahimi said. Police chief General Sayed Mohammad Roshandil said that the bomber blew himself up outside the telecommunications ministry, clearing the way for the other attackers to enter the building and the heavily-guarded government compound in central Kabul.

The Afghan branch of the Daesh group has also previously carried out multiple deadly attacks in Kabul.
