A jury has retired to consider its verdict in the trial of two men accused of murdering a teenage girl in Blackburn.

A trial at Preston Crown Court heard that Aya had no heartbeat when paramedics arrived and she was pronounced dead in hospital despite the efforts of emergency workers.
Defending Sohayl Suleman, Imran Shafi KC said there was no hard evidence linking him to the plot. He said that, in the lead up to the shooting, Sohayl Suleman was using cocaine heavily and had been kicked out of the family business. On behalf of Otway, Alan Gardner KC said he had been in contact with Raja and Ennis in the days leading up to the killing but only for entirely innocent reasons. He argued that Otway had no knowledge of or involvement in the conspiracy, noting he tried to call both men repeatedly after their phones were removed from them for alibi purposes.
