President Joe Biden plans to announce new steps to address the extreme heat that has threatened millions of Americans, most recently in the Southwest. PHOENIX — — Phoenix sizzled through its 31st consecutive day of at least 110 degrees Fahrenheit and other parts of the country grappled Sunday with record temperatures after a week that saw significant portions of the U.S.

Flames 20 feet high in some spots have charred more than 110 square miles of desert scrub, juniper and Joshua tree woodland, according to a Sunday update.
