The British actor’s family reported him missing on Jan. 13. An extensive search was undertaken to find him.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department said Tuesday it had ID’d human remains discovered Saturday as Sands — capping an extensive search for the “Arachnophobia” star.
At the time, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced that another missing hiker of the same mountain, Jim Chung, 75, was“As of this time, Mr. Sands has not been found and no evidence of his current location has been discovered. The search will continue, weather and ground conditions permitting,” a spokesperson said in January.
“These rescue missions have been for lost, stranded and/or injured hikers. Unfortunately, during these past 4 weeks, two hikers did not survive after falling and injuring themselves,” the department noted.
