Three such organizations made presentations at a special meeting Jan. 3 and trustees unanimously chose the Chicago area-based Hazard, Young and Attea Associates, or HYA, expressing confidence it could find candidates in line with the values of a diverse, urban school district. Wellman, who was the superintendent at Eanes ISD in suburban Austin for 11 years before joining HYA nine years ago, said the key to success is “a good working relationship with the board and the superintendent. It's a give and take.”
But the time such an approach will take will need to be decided in a “delicate process” of negotiation with the board, Wellman said. A planning meeting Jan. 24 will “make the calendar based on the board's expectations and our feedback on what's reasonable and what we can get done.”
