Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s historic nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court is inspiring Black women in law in Texas and across the country.
PUBLISHED 9:30 PM CDT Apr. 03, 2022AUSTIN, Texas — Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s historic nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court is inspiring Black women in law across the country, including right here in the Lone Star State."There was not a lot of diversity among the law school students," Kennedy explained. "...Started here as an assistant district attorney after law school and I have then became a judge and have remained ever since.
Kennedy is the presiding judge of the 403rd District Court. It took grit and perseverance to get to where she is today. "The hard part about judges and elections is the politics of it, because we're not really normally viewed as politicians," Kennedy said. Judge Kennedy proudly watched as Judge Jackson became the first Black woman ever nominated to the nation's highest court. If she is confirmed, Judge Jackson will be the first Black woman to serve on the high court.
"Hopefully will help others aspire to do the same and people with qualifications such as hers won't think that it's a lost cause to reach that level," Kennedy said.
