An Alabama judge issues a temporary restraining order that could allow Spanish Fort boys to play in soccer postseason.

The Toros won the Class 6A, Area 2 championship but were omitted from the Alabama High School Athletic Association online playoff pairings after the school self-reported an eligibility violation.Mobile attorney David Allen filed a complaint against Alabama High School Athletic Association executive director Alvin Briggs on Sunday.

“I was surprised,” Allen said. “Judge Taylor looked at it and said, ‘This is wrong,’ and entered the order as requested. The final trial is set for late May so, as of now, the kid participates and the team participates. They would have to overturn a circuit court judge order for anything to be different.”With the Toros out, Robertsdale moves up as the area champion and is scheduled to host St. Paul’s on Saturday. Gulf Shores would get the runner-up spot and travel to McGill-Toolen on Thursday.

The suit alleges that an AHSAA representative first approved DeFelippo as an eligible player for the Toros this season after Smith inquired about the player’s status last month. Allen said DeFelippo was playing high-level club soccer in Colorado but wasn’t living with his family there.
