A man died Tuesday after being shot by Joliet police officers, police said.
Police said they responded to a report of shots fired in the 600-block of Elmwood Avenue and they found a 29-year-old man walking while holding a handgun.
Officers fired and shot the man, police said. The man was transported to Silver Cross Hospital, where he was pronounced dead Tuesday.On Wednesday, Harris was pleading for some more information from police, as she believes this could've been handled differently."I can't wrap my head around it; this is not happening," she said.Harris said she was walking down the street with her sister, when they heard the gunshots.
"When I went down the street and turned the corner, my husband was just laying down there on the ground," she said.Police said they found a handgun at the scene, but Harris is still wondering what exactly led police to shoot her husband multiple times. "They could've done better; they could've handled this way different than how they handled it. He was already down. Why keep shooting him?" Harris said."Genuine, loving, he wouldn't hurt nobody," Harris said.The case is under investigation by the Will Grundy Major Crimes Task Force.
