Johnny Sexton wrote his name into the history books on Saturday with his appearance at the Rugby World Cup.It was a 12-try blitz by Andy Farrell's men as they got their tournament up and running in impressive fashion.Crucially, talisman Sexton emerged relatively unscathed from the game. The 38-year-old will be key to any success Ireland may taste in France.
This is part of Sexton's swansong, but whenever he bows out of the tournament he will do so as Ireland's oldest ever player at a World Cup. He eclipsed Ulster and Ireland legend Rory Best by playing on Saturday. Ex-British and Irish Lion Best was 37 when he featured at the last tournament in Japan. Sexton was interviewed after Saturday's game, and it was put to him that he was now Ireland's oldest ever player at a World Cup.
The Leinster man said: "I took it off who? Rory Best? I am sure he won't let me forget about it anyway."You have put me on the spot there!
