Former Whites boss Neil Redfearn felt the deep lying role didn't suit the Dutch striker
Former Leeds United manager Neil Redfearn feels Joel Piroe 'got lost' on his Elland Road debut, as Leeds United were held to a frustrating goalless draw with Sheffield Wednesday.
However, instead of partnering Georginio Rutter in attack, as they did at Portman Road, Piroe was asked to play a slightly deeper role against the Owls. And Redfearn, who managed Leeds from 2014-15, felt it was not a position which suited the Whites new signing.“I thought they were going to play four-four-two at first, like they did at Ipswich," he told BBC Radio Leeds. "But obviously they played more of a midfield role for Piroe. I just thought he got lost in the game.
Piroe arrived at Leeds on the back of 44 goals in 92 Championship appearances for Swansea. The 24-year-old Netherlands Under-20 international signed a four-year deal at Elland Road last month in a deal reported to be worth around £10m.
