Bexar County District Attorney Joe D. Gonzales declared victory in his bid for a second term, holding a commanding lead over challenger Marc LaHood late Tuesday night.

Gonzales has declared victory in his bid for a second term, holding a commanding lead over challenger Marc LaHood late Tuesday night.
“The votes tonight are an indication that the voters of Bexar County agree with the approach that I have been taking since the beginning.”He hopes to improve communication with the community and to bump up the pay for his employees, especially the attorneys in his office, which he described as one of the lowest-paid district attorney offices in Texas.
“Sometimes people misunderstand that when a violent offender is immediately released, that it’s because of me,” Gonzales said. “But there’s a process. Everyone — with the exception of capital murder — is entitled to bond. So an individual that gets charged with a very serious offense may have the ability to bond out. That doesn’t have anything to do with the District Attorney’s Office or my policy or philosophy.
LaHood, 44, ran a “tough on crime” campaign and won endorsements from local law enforcement groups, including the San Antonio Police Officers Association, the Deputy Sheriff’s Association of Bexar County and the Bexar County Adult Probation Officers Association.
