Jenna Ortega opens up and reveals that she had hoped her iconic Wednesday dance scene wouldn't go viral when season 1 of the Netflix series debuted.

Jenna Ortega addresses the online trend that her Wednesday dance scene inspired, revealing that she had hoped that the sequence wouldn't go viral. Audiences first got a glimpse of the dance scene in the Netflix series' first teaser trailer, before seeing the full sequence in episode 4 "Woe What A Night", where Ortega's Addams Family character attended Nevermore Academy's school dance.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY During an interview with The Times, Ortega opened up about her career so far, during which she expressed her true feelings toward Wednesday's viral dance trend that took the internet by storm.

No. When they were telling me [it was going viral] I was trying to seem uplifted about it, like, ‘Oh, wow!’ But mentally, in my head, I was hoping people wouldn’t pay so much attention to that part. It’s disorientating. I don’t think people are naturally designed to have that many eyes on them.

Upon Wednesday season 1's release, audiences latched onto the scene, with one viewer editing the sequence to a sped-up rendition of Lady Gaga's 2011 song, "Bloody Mary." When the edited scene began to circulate on TikTok amongst the fandom and beyond, cosplayers and other dedicated fans of the Netflix series recorded themselves recreating the choreography, with even Madonna and figure skater Kamila Valieva creating their own unique renditions.

Wednesday quickly became one of Netflix's biggest hit series for 2022 despite its release later in the year, breaking the service's viewership records. While the series' cast of existing and new characters was embraced by audiences, it is clear by the viral trend's recognition by Netflix and celebrities that the dance scene is one of season 1's most memorable moments.
