Jeff Bezos, billionaire founder and CEO of Amazon, sold $1.74 billion worth of Amazon shares on January 31 and February 3, according to documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. After taxes, the e-commerce tycoon will net an estimated $1.3 billion.
It is unclear what Bezos sold the shares for, though the Amazon founder often sells at least $1 billion worth of his shares annually. In 2017, he told reporters at a space conference that he was selling $1 billion worth of his e-commerce company’s stock every year to fund Blue Origin, his space exploration company.
