the full House will take up a vote this week on recommending contempt charges—if passed, it would formally recommend criminal charges from the Justice Department, which could then bring the case before a grand jury and lead to an indictment.

Clark was required under federal law to turn over documents to investigators and appear for a deposition in accordance with a subpoena the committee issued in October, but he did not comply by the dates set in the subpoena. Rep. Bennie Thompson , committee chairman, said Clark has agreed to appear for a new deposition date, which is set for Saturday, but Clark’s attorney has informed the committee he plans to assert his Fifth Amendment rights and not provide testimony.

Clark's attorney has said he shouldn't have to give information to the committee because Clark was providing legal counsel to Trump in his role as acting assistant attorney general for the DOJ's civil division, meaning the release of that information could
