Along with older brother Dennis , Wang started Huayi Brothers as an advertising company in 1994, but it would become a multinational entertainment behemoth. Where Dennis operates quietly on the business end, James is the man about town, attending film festivals and schmoozing talent.
He has a remarkably long relationship with top Chinese director Feng Xiaogang that has yielded not only films but theme parks. Admired for their professionalism and corporate governance, the brothers are still trying to outrun China’s encroaching Internet giants. A proposed purchase of Studio 8 collapsed in 2014, but they moved on to an equity and co-production pact with STX.

Of course, these are still young kids, so they have to continue making strides until they’re able to dunk a regulation-sized basketball—which is a graduation requirement.” At press time, James had announced a new scholarship program to help Akron-area high schoolers gain admission to prestigious Ivy League dunking programs.
