for 2022-23. Harden signaled his intention to work with the Sixers on a new deal that would give the team more financial flexibility to make improvements to the roster this offseason. The Sixers signed P.J. Tucker and Danuel House Jr. in free agency and acquired De'Anthony Melton in a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Acquired from the Brooklyn Nets in a blockbuster trade at the deadline in February, Harden averaged 21.0 points, 10.5 assists and 7.1 rebounds in 21 games down the stretch for the Sixers. His numbers tailed off to 18.6 points, 8.6 assists and 5.7 rebounds during the playoffs as Philadelphia lost in the second round to the Miami Heat.
