The leading rider will be back on hot favourite Shaquille as he aims for a third Group One victory in the feature on Merseyside this Saturday
James Doyle can't wait to be reunited with sprint star Shaquille in this Saturday's Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock Park.
The leading rider told a press call organised by QIPCO British Champions Series: "I went to sit on him during York week and we just popped him in the stalls on the Malton gallops there It was nice to sit on him at home, the guys have all said he's completely different at home which was kind of hard to imagine. It was nice to experience that, he really is a calm and collected character in his own environment, it was nice to see him like that.
Doyle was disappointed not to be be able to ride Shaquille at Royal Ascot where he was needed for trainer Charlie Appleby's Noble Style, who was ninth behind him. The rider was riding at Ascot for the Godolphin operation when Shaquille won the July Cup. And he said: "It was tough.
Doyle won the Sprint Cup on Hello Youmzain in 2019 and also partnered another star sprinter Blue Point when he landed a Group One double at Royal Ascot in 2019. But he thinks Shaquille could be the best he has ridden. He added: “Shaquille certainly has the potential to be the best sprinter I have ridden but it would be foolish to say he is at this stage as it is still early in his career. I have ridden some really good sprinters, with Blue Point being the best.
