Clemens had taken the opener earlier Saturday afternoon, winning 11-9 at Clemens High School as the teams resumed a game that had been suspended Friday night with the score tied at 6 in the third inning. "We talked on the bus about having to have a short memory," said Madison head coach Laurie Friesenhahn."We knew coming into Game 2 that we needed to win twice to keep going and our kids just fought to the end.
But the Buffaloes stranded two runners to end the frame in what would become a recurring theme throughout the game. Clemens had baserunners in six of seven innings and was able to get some of them home, but the Buffaloes still left nine runners on, including multiple runners in three different frames.
