'You have entire communities relying on you to do what’s in the best interest,' Gov. Kay Ivey tells new members of the Alabama Legislature.

The governor spoke today to a freshman class of legislators that includes 31 representatives and six senators elected in November. Republicans maintained their large majorities, holding 77 seats in the 105-seat House and 27 in the 35-seat Senate.

“Be on time, show up, and be informed,” Ivey told the group. “Your opportunity comes with a great deal of responsibility. Never lose sight of you were elected by the people of Alabama to serve the people, not yourself. You have entire communities relying on you to do what’s in the best interest. Believe me when I say they will hold you accountable for every decision that you make.”
