Ryanair flights to Italy have been cancelled
Anyone heading to Italy this summer is being urged to monitor plans closely, after Ryanair cancelled a number of flights to and from the holiday hotspot.
Baggage handling and air traffic control staff have walked out today for 24 hours and more industrial action planned next month. Italian publication The Local reports that unions have called for pay rises in line with inflation, contractual holiday allowance and general improvement in conditions for ground and transport staff. More striking is set to happen on on July 15, as Italian air tarffic controllers due to walk out again with more cancellations and delays anticipated.
Italy's public transport will also be impacted by industrial action, as Euronews reports that staff across the country will strike for 24 hours on July 7, affecting trains, ferries and metro services. Disruption levels will vary and holidaymakers should keep an eye on local news reports, as well as checking in with travel providers.
