Exclusive: Elise actor Lin Shaye reveals her one issue with the Insidious horror movie franchise and her hopes for future installments to repair it:

With the mainline movies nearing their end, Lin Shaye reveals her one issue of the Insidious horror franchise. Shaye has been one of the sole stars of every Insidious movie, portraying psychic Elise Rainier as she is enlisted to help the Lambert family in the first movie, and exploring some of her early cases with her paranormal investigating partners, Specs and Tucker, the former of whom is played by franchise creator Leigh Whannell.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Ahead of the movie's release, Screen Rant spoke exclusively with Lin Shaye to discuss Insidious: The Red Door. In looking back at the horror movie franchise as the mainline movies come to an end, the Elise actor revealed her one issue with the franchise as a whole is some of the open-ended storylines yet to be explored, expressing her hopes for spinoffs to pick them up in the future.

It didn't bother me, but I always wondered why they ended it like that if they weren't going to continue on some other road with those same characters. I have no idea, it's been a finicky franchise in that way where they've set up other characters that have come through different installments that we never see again, or that storyline never goes further, so — pardon the expression — maybe we'll all end up in The Further.

Every Unanswered Question In The Insidious Franchise As Shaye notes above, there are a number of supporting characters and storylines that are currently left unfinished within the Insidious franchise. One of the biggest that fans of the horror series have been left wondering about is the cliffhanger ending of Insidious: Chapter 2 in which the spirit of Elise continues her work with Specs and Tucker and visits a family whose eldest daughter is in an unexplained coma.

The other major route Shaye proposes that would be an intriguing future for the Insidious franchise is to branch out on Elise's family, namely her nieces introduced in The Last Key. While Spencer Locke's Melissa was more of a victim in the second prequel movie, Caitlin Gerard's Imogen actually showed the same psychic abilities as Shaye's beloved protagonist, establishing her as a potential replacement for Elise should the creatives elect to not try and bring the character back.
