The Prime Minister has offered the UK's support following the horrific attacks and said 'terrorism will not prevail'
The conflict has escalated following a surprise attack from Hamas on Saturday morning Israel’s death toll has nearly reached 700 people and thousands more are injured after Palestinian militants launched an unprecedented attack on Israel. Gunmen from the Islamist group Hamas infiltrated the Gaza Strip, to the south of the country, on Saturday morning and intense fighting broke out after a barrage of earlier rocket attacks.
Dozens of Israeli civilians and soldiers have been taken hostage by Hamas, who demand the release of all Palestinians from prison in return. More than 250 bodies were recovered after armed attackers parachuted into areas surrounding a music festival in the Negev desert, near Kibbutz Re-im, before launching fire. Iconic landmarks across the world lit up in unison with Israel, while UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said ‘terrorism will not prevail’. Follow live coverage of the conflict below.
