Israel is preparing for a ground assault in Gaza following Hamas's attack on Saturday. Follow our live coverage.
Over 263,934 people in Gaza are believed to have fled their homes since fighting began on Saturday, according to the United Nations, the highest number since the 50-day escalation of hostilities in the region in 2014. The U.N.'s relief and works agency said it was hosting 175,486 people in 88 schools.
Israel has urged people living in Gaza to leave the enclave to avoid airstrikes--an option they don't have because the enclave's border with Israel and Egypt is closed. Airstrikes in the Gaza Strip have targeted several residential buildings in heavily populated areas, resulting in casualties, including among the elderly, women and children, the U.N. said.
