United Nations chief António Guterres visited the Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza Friday, saying aid trucks were still blocked from reaching Palestinians.
Justin Amash, the first Palestinian American to represent Michigan in Congress, shared a photo Friday of two relatives who he said were killed in a blast at the historic Church of St. Porphyrius in Gaza the day before. Amash, who represented Michigan’s 3rd District and left Congress in 2021 as a libertarian, said his relatives were “sheltering, when part of the complex was destroyed as the result of an Israeli airstrike.
” The Israel Defense Forces said in an emailed statement that a strike targeting a Hamas control center “damaged the wall of a church in the area” and that it is “aware of reports on casualties” and is reviewing the incident. “The Palestinian Christian community has endured so much,” Amash said on X. “Our family is hurting badly. May God watch over all Christians in Gaza — and all Israelis and Palestinians who are suffering, whatever their religion or creed.
