A border crossing between southern Gaza and Egypt is expected to reopen this morning to allow foreign nationals to leave, and humanitarian aid to enter, according to Sky News' US partner NBC News. While on the border with Lebanon, tensions between Hezbollah and Israel are escalating.
President Joe Biden has said the threat of terrorism in the US has increased due to unrest in the Middle East. In an interview with CBS News' 60 Minutes programme, President Biden said he had met with Homeland Security and the FBI to discuss the ongoing situation. It comes after a six-year-old Muslim boy was stabbed to death in Illinois on Saturday, in what police have called a suspected hate crime.
In another part of the interview, the president said he is 'confident' that Israel is going to act under the rules of war, adding that it is not necessary to deploy US troops. He said that while he believes Hamas must be 'eliminated', there needs to be a path to a Palestinian state. The so-called 'two-state solution' has been part of US policy for decades, CBS reported.
