As Israel prepares for widely-anticipated ground invasion of Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon threaten response against Israel, there are fears the UK’s military commitment in the eastern Mediterranean could increase if conflict spreads
The first RAF surveillance planes arrived in the eastern Mediterranean on Friday, and their initial job will be to monitor signs of any illicit assistance to Hamas in Gaza, such as transport of extra weaponry into the coastal territory. It is also expected the British deployment will offer humanitarian assistance if a widely-anticipated ground invasion worsens the Palestinian refugee crisis.
