The new owner of the Phoenix Suns and Mercury is promising to improve working conditions for employees in the wake of the controversy that surrounded the organization at the end of the tenure of previous owner Robert Sarver.
. During his Wednesday press conference, Ishbia acknowledged that the team does not have a president and CEO but did not seem to be in a rush to hire someone for that role or any other position.
“I have no plans for anyone to come into this organization at this time until I evaluate what we got,” Ishbia said. At one point during the press conference, he said he’d take months before he made any major personnel choices. Ishbia also said he wants to focus on winning in the long term and finding a way to win every day without sacrificing future efforts.
“I’m going to be here for 40 or 50 years,” he said. “You guys are going to get sick of me. I’m going to be here a long time.”While being the new owner of the Suns, Ishbia said that he will continue in his job as the CEO of United Wholesale Mortgage , the largest mortgage lending firm in the country, and because he has young children in Michigan, he’ll continue to live there as well. But he also wants to be hands on with the Suns, so he said he’ll be flying back and forth — a lot.
