The Sudan power-sharing agreement signed on Saturday is significant as it features a governing council comprising of members from both the military and the public
at a ceremony in the capital on Saturday.

However, the talks did not go smoothly and the two sides did not come to an agreement right away. The council will be a joint-ruling body between the military and civilians and it would govern for just over three years until elections can be held.
