Now, as the Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes release date approaches, Lawrence addresses theories that Lucy is actually Katniss' grandmother in a recent interview with EW. While the director doesn't directly confirm or deny the connection, he does tease another ancestry theory involving a different character who will be making an appearance in the prequel.

While Zegler's Lucy might not be Katniss' grandmother, there are some other interesting theories and connections.
Maude Ivory, who is played by Vaughan Reilly in the upcoming prequel, grew up in District 12 and is a talented singer as part of the Covey. It's not yet clear how prominently she will feature in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, but Lawrence's latest tease suggests the movie could feature hints as to her relation to the Everdeens. As Lucy's cousin, Maude being related to the Everdeens would mean that Zegler's character is too.
Outside of Lucy and the Everdeens, it's looking likely that Jason Schwartzmann's Lucretius "Lucky" Flickerman, host of the titular games in the upcoming prequel, may be related to Stanley Tucci's character from the original movies. The Snow family tree, too, of course, will also be a key focus of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
