The future of the Guardians of the Galaxy is uncertain after Phase 5's Vol. 3, but one major MCU hero has already proven that they can still return.
Though the future of Marvel Studios' Guardians team is unclear after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Iron Man already proved that they can still be a major part of the MCU's future. Released on May 5, 2023, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 marked the final adventure for the original team, as several of the team's members retired after saving Rocket's life and defeating the High Evolutionary.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 4 Is Uncertain After James Gunn’s Marvel Exit In November 2022, James Gunn was hired as co-CEO of DC Studios, meaning his commitments to Marvel Studios ended with the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, though the split is entirely amicable. This means that Gunn won't be returning to direct any further projects in the MCU, whether that be featuring the Guardians of the Galaxy or other cosmic characters as was once planned.
Tony Stark Was A Major MCU Character After His Last Solo Movie One of the MCU's biggest heroes has already proven, however, that the Guardians of the Galaxy don't need a fourth film to still play a part in the franchise, as Robert Downey Jr. didn't appear as Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man, in any solo projects following the release of 2013's Iron Man 3.
