Significant historical artefacts, including pottery from as early as 200 BC have been discovered in Thornton
Wyre Borough Council has "reassured" the public after significant archaeological finds were discovered on a site proposed for housing development. In a statement, the council have stated that they are "aware of the public interest" in the archaeological findings at the Bourne Hill site in Thornton.
Throughout this, Wyre Council have said they are relying on the expertise of Lancashire County Council's Historic Environment Team, namely the expertise of the specialist archaeology planning officer. This is for councillors to understand the finds and what will happen to them going forward. OAN will then work on the post-excavation assessment report of the excavated finds and the environmental samples from the site. Once it has been finalised, the report will be made available to the public.
"Throughout this, the council has relied, as it always does, on the expertise of a specialist archaeology planning officer from Lancashire County Council’s Historic Environment Team. We’re working closely with Lancashire County Council to understand the significance of the archaeological finds and what happens to them.
