Iran carried out its planned threat to enrich uranium at its underground Fordow nuclear site, the U.N. atomic agency confirmed

The International Atomic Energy Agency stated on Monday that Iran had started feeding uranium gas into two cascades of centrifuges at its underground Fordow nuclear site, which is barred under the accord.Senior officials from the European Union, France, Britain and Germany met Monday afternoon to discuss their response.

Iranian officials have in the past said that the use of the dispute mechanism by Europe could cause them to escalate their nuclear program or even pull out of the accord. The IAEA also said Iran had accumulated 372 kilograms of enriched uranium in pure uranium weight, compared with the deal’s limit of 202.8 kg. That is the equivalent of around 550 kg in the hexafluoride gas form, approaching double the 300 kg limit set in the accord.
