The Iowa Colony girls swimming and diving team won the District 11-4A championship, scoring 129 points while winning five events.The University Interscholastic League will hold its inaugural Class 4A swimming and diving championships in February, marking the first year schools with enrollment smaller than Class 5A have had their own state meet.
The 4A postseason has already included several unprecedented achievements, including Iowa Colony and Stafford celebrating the first District 11-4A team championships Saturday at Lamar High School's McDonald Family Aquatic Center. Iowa Colony, which opened in August, won the girls 11-4A crown with 129 points, ahead of Danbury , Stafford , Wharton , Needville and Washington . The Pioneers won five events, including two relays.
Stafford won its first district title, finishing atop the boys standings with 168 points, followed by Iowa Colony , Danbury and Wharton . The Spartans won eight events, including all three relays. Among the individual highlights was a record-setting performance by Iowa Colony diver Lorelei Marquez, whose 293.05 points in the one-meter event set a new facility mark.
