Kepler is joining the race to enter the low-orbit satellite market, as it promises to challenge billion-dollar connectivity industries:

global IoT coverage, a valuable asset for industries such as shipping, mining, and oil drilling.

While the SpaceX rideshare program reduces some operational complexity, launching LEO satellite services — whether for IoT or low-latency broadband — will still be an incredibly complex, expensive endeavor. Here are three of the biggest barriers: given the associated risks of space debris, and companies must petition the FCC to get approval for satellites.

Developing operational upkeep abilities. Winning FCC approval can be conditional. SpaceX was one of the first companies to go through the approval process, and we can learn a lot from the company's experience: The FCC approved SpaceX's request to operate 4,425 LEO satellites, but with several stipulations.
