Today, we’re excited to bring together two key workflows in Omni with aggregate awareness. Using aggregate awareness, you can leverage preexisting, clean data (perhaps transformed by a tool, like dbt to optimize your queries dynamically and help them run between 10x and 100x faster.

Since the aggregated table is smaller than the underlying table, queries running against it will be faster and more efficientTo enable Omni’s aggregate intelligence, add metadata with the definition for the equivalent query in Omni to the view. This tells Omni the relational algebra equivalent to the table, which it can match to other Omni queries.instead of the underlying “order_items” view if it has enough information to complete the query, leading to faster, more efficient query execution.
Since our vision has always been to go further, aggregate awareness now lets you use the same logic to optimize queries that use aggregate tables or materialized views in your database with aggregate awareness.If you’re using Omni today, you don’t need to have rollup tables lying around to use the feature! You can use Omni to generate the SQL for some new rollup tables, and then use ourto materialize those SQL queries in your database using dbt.
