This ghost kitchen will likely grow to major cities in Texas. Plano was first.
Walmart shoppers in Plano might not know it, but there’s a gaggle of chefs at aInside, chefs are cooking food from national companies like Nathan’s Hot Dogs and Wow Bao. The kitchen is also a home for local chefs like Plano resident Tiffany Qualls and her mom Jo Denman, small business owners who sell fried pies at Northeast Texas festivals and fairs but have found new customers at Walmart.
Plano resident Qasim opened the Walmart kitchen in late 2022 with Joon Choe, a French-trained chef and Frisco resident. They co-ownand plan to add it as one of the 12 to 20 options on the Walmart menu, another homegrown option. Ghost Kitchens manager Peter Choi explains the process of ordering at the restaurant to Vicki Ferrell. Today, the kitchen offers 12 food companies' menus, including Cheesecake Factory, Wow Bao, Sam's Crispy Chicken and local companies like Scrumptious Fried Pies.
Ghost Kitchen Brands has an established partnership with Walmart. Plus, some Walmarts already have kitchens in them, which cuts down on construction costs. In Plano, the ghost kitchen moved into a vacant boba tea shop inside the Walmart. Before that it was a Burger King.
