Internal and external investigations are being conducted, the release stated, and an advisory board made up of staff and citizens will review the man’s death to see if any policy changes could be made in the future. The inmate’s cause of death will be determined after an autopsy by the medical examiner’s office, the release said.
“Out of respect for the family, we will not be releasing the inmate’s name at this time,” the release stated. “This is a difficult loss for our staff,” said Chief Deputy Arnold Butcher in a statement. “Our team of corrections and medical personnel do all they can to ensure those in our care are looked after like one of their own.”
