Alan Turman was supposed to be starting the next chapter of his life.
: Police announced early Monday that Stefen Lowe, 35, was arrested in this case and is facing a preliminary murder charge. The Marion County Prosecutors Office will review the case and make a final charging decision.: He’d just gotten married to his best friend, Shannon Turman, and they had a massive king-and-queen-themed wedding reception planned for next weekend. Everything was going to be white and gold. They each had a crown to wear.
On Saturday, Turman — who went by Jermaine, his middle name — was shot and killed in the parking lot of Oasis of Hope Baptist Church, where he was serving as a pallbearer at his mother-in-law’s funeral. He was 42 years old. Jermaine’s mother, Pamela Grant, was trying to take her son home after the fight. She’d also been at the funeral, to support her son and daughter-in-law.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, just before 1 p.m., according to police reports. A spokesperson for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said they were speaking to a person of interest. Turman’s family said they’d been told that the shooter was in police custody. Turman had five children, between the ages of 12 and 22. Shannon Turman said her husband was a loving father.
