Indian authorities reimpose some restrictions in parts of Kashmir while Pakistan PM likens Modi to Hitler over Kashmir policy

Indian paramilitary soldiers patrol a street in Srinagar, India-administered Kashmir, Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019.

Police checkpoints were also placed on some roads leading to the old quarter of the city, a traditional hotbed of protests, and some streets in central Srinagar. Indian officials will hold a video-conference with senior police and administration officials from all 10 districts in the disputed Kashmir valley on Sunday evening to decide on restrictions, two senior state government officials told"We will make an assessment of the situation today," one official said, requesting anonymity because he is not authorised to speak to the media. "I do not think we will allow large gatherings.

Only two mobile phones with an outside line are on offer in the deputy commissioner's office, but so desperate are people to contact families in the rest of India and overseas that they come from across Srinagar and beyond to wait in line. "They stopped me from entering because they don't have a female police officer to frisk me," the dejected woman, who was hoping to call her two children studying abroad, told AFP.
