India has slammed claims of ‘credible allegations’ that its government may have had links to the slaying of a Sikh activist in Canada.
India has hit back at Canada’s expulsion of one of its top diplomats, hours after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claimed there were “credible allegations” that India’s government may have had links to the assassination of a Sikh activist.
The statement said India was concerned over the inaction of the Canadian government when it came to “Khalistani terrorists and extremists”. Mr Trudeau said: “Over the past number of weeks, Canadian security agencies have been actively pursuing credible allegations of a potential link between agents of the government of India and the killing of a Canadian citizen, Hardeep Singh Nijjar.”
Canadian foreign minister Melanie Joly said the head of Indian intelligence in Canada had been expelled as a consequence.
