: Michelin-starred restaurants, delicious French wines, stunning UNESCO World Heritage sites, temperate temperatures, and a direct train route to and from Paris are just a few of the city’s well-known perks. But soon the second largest city in France, often referred to as the Chicago to Paris’s New York, will also boast another hook: a fully sustainable neighborhood featuring modern architecture and an expanding nightlife scene in a district called the Confluence.
Between the Rhône and Saône rivers, the Confluence district is aesthetically unlike anywhere else in Lyon or even Paris. “In Paris you’re obliged to respect the story of Paris. You’re obliged to respect every square meter because of the past. For me, I’m fed up with that,” says Mob Hotel founder Cyril Aouizerate, who just opened his second location in the neighborhood.
Likewise, Confluence functions unlike the rest of the city. Made up of former docklands, the area has been revitalized thanks to an ongoing urban development project focused on creating a sustainable, walkable, and diverse neighborhood featuring green infrastructure, a network of parks, and self-driven shuttles. It also boasts some of the city’s best nightlife, thanks to warehouses turned performance spaces that now attract international artists.
