In California’s Sonoma Valley, a modern farmhouse with its own speakeasy, tennis pavilion and bocce court is coming on the market for $16.7 million

A decade ago, Katherine and David deWilde set out to turn their Sonoma County vacation property into a “kid magnet” for their children and grandchildren, complete with a bunk room, sports courts and speakeasy. Now the couple is putting the roughly 13-acre compound on the market for $16.7 million.

Located in Kenwood, Calif., an affluent town in the Sonoma Valley, the property includes a roughly 5,970-square-foot modern farmhouse with floors made with reclaimed wood from Napa wine barrels. There are two guest cottages, a pool and a stand-alone gym with glass walls that open completely on two sides.

The deWildes, who live full-time in San Francisco, paid just over $5 million for the house in 2011, said Ms. deWilde, a vice chairman and former president of First Republic Bank. Mr. deWilde is an investor and former CEO of Chartwell Partners. She said the couple poured another roughly $8 million into renovations. They built a sunroom in the main house and added four bedrooms across the house and guest cottages, including a bunk room that sleeps eight. Even before they closed, they had the builder add a tennis pavilion and bocce court. They planted mature olive trees as well as seasonal flowers including jasmine, lilies and black-eyed Susans.

The house has beamed ceilings, and Mr. deWilde said the house is full of “little eccentricities” that the couple enjoy.
