Illinois state Senator Martin Sandoval has been criticized by both Republicans and Democrats for allowing a mock assassination of President Donald Trump to be staged at his fundraiser.

The incident took place at a $250-ticket fundraising event at Klein Creek Golf Club in Winfield, a suburb of Chicago. "As our nation grapples with the epidemic of gun violence, purposely pointing a fake gun at anyone is insensitive and wrong. I condemn actions like the ones displayed in the pictures because they lack the civility our politics demands," Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker said in a statement.
"These images are unacceptable and dangerous. The place to make our voices heard against Trump is at the ballot box."
