A guide to the week's most notable central Indiana softball matchups.
The first of a home-and-home between Mid-State Conference rivals. Decatur Central, which is led by senior Kylie Eads in the circle and junior Laci Boggs at the plate, was scheduled to participate in the Horseshoe Classic last weekend, but the event was canceled due to weather. The host Pioneers, who swept DC last season, outscored Seeger, Avon, West Vigo and Castle by a total of 32 runs at a tournament in Terre Haute on Saturday.
A rematch of last year's semistate semifinal, Roncalli is ranked No. 1 nationally by MaxPreps; Columbus North shut out Shelbyville, 2-0, last Thursday. Six different players have homered for Roncalli, which has 10 dingers through two games. Senior first baseman Courtney Keller is batting .714 with six RBIs, five runs scored and three home runs . Columbus North pitchers Rachel Cowan and Maddi Rutan have combined for 57 strikeouts and only five walks. The Bull Dogs have yet to allow a run.
