If your employer offers a match, don't leave that free money on the table
A 403 retirement plan can only be used by employees of public schools, churches, hospitals, or other tax-exempt organizations. As with a 401, you won't pay income tax on the money that you contribute to a 403 retirement plan, unless you choose to make Roth contributions. While 403 and 401 plans share many of the same benefits and limits, 403 plans can be more affordable, at times, and may allow you to make extra contributions after you've worked for your employer at least 15 years.
