. The Steinbrenner family values the Yankees’ stability despite the 13-year championship drought. Cashman’s Yankees win, they draw well and remain annual contenders. He’s likely not going anywhere., on the other hand, is in greater danger, assuming Steinbrenner is honest enough to admit the setbacks have become a prophecy. The owner also would need his father’s iron will to tell Boone to his face he’s been fired. That’s a long shot, too.

But Boone himself contributed to the collapse with a run of bad decisions this month. Some of moves were counter-intuitive, others were flat-out wrong. That series lives in infamy in the Bronx for the Red Sox’s comeback from an 0-3 deficit against the Yankees to win the pennant.nothing’s impossible.
