With summer within touching distance, now's the perfect time to book a sun-drenched getaway. And if far-flung destinations are your bag, Palm Island in the Caribbean could be the place for you
When you’re in need of some much needed 'R and R', it doesn’t get much better than a trip to Palm Island. Located near the southern tip of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the private island resort boasts a series of white sandy beaches and is so remote that it can only be accessed via boat.
With just 41 rooms, the resort never feels crowded. And there are no cars on the island – just the odd golf buggy – which adds to the tranquility. Everything is reachable on foot, from the restaurants to the spa, as the whole island is a mere 135 hectares. The resort has two other villas – one with a seaside hot tub – as well as four beachfront cottages, which also have outdoor showers, cabanas and perfect views of the sunset. Less extravagant options are available, too. The palm view rooms and the lofts don’t have such eye-watering price tags, but come with the same comfy beds and are still mere steps away from the nearest beach.
In the evenings, many of the guests mingle in the bar. There’s an impressive cocktail list, which may go some way to explaining the friendly vibe. The rum punch knocked our socks off on day one, but we soon acclimatised, and by the end of the week we enjoyed the rum tasting night with only a teeny bit of a wobble!
