The title of Leeds’ ‘top-rated’ ice-cream parlour has been bestowed upon an Ice Scoop Gelato venue, the dessert franchise which seems to have popped up across the city, according to TripAdvisor.
I suspect, quite possibly, a lot of Ice Scoop Gelato’s business is done through their delivery takeaway service. From a brief glance at the menu, one can see they concoct a range of Frankenstein-like dessert dishes crammed to the brim with an extravagant assortment of sweet-treats, potentially catering to greed rather than fulfilment. You can appreciate the business acumen behind the franchise – but these dishes represent the base desire for bare-faced gluttony and Ice Scoop Gelato’s unapologetic willingness to cater to it.
Hastily, she grabbed a sundae glass from the counter and unceremoniously tipped the paper cup into the bowl, forming one large gelatinous glob as the scoops clumped together. I then vouched for raspberry sauce topping and it came with a wafer. Finally, I tried the scoop of Raspberry Cheesecake. There was a grainy texture to this one, with the seeds of the raspberry scattered through the clump of ice-cream. This was the most tolerable of the three – but that’s not saying a great deal.
