Though she’s learned a lot about 9/11 in school and has visited the memorial, Shay doesn’t want to investigate exactly what happened to her dad or watch videos of that day. "I’d rather just know that he’s happy in heaven.” Anniversaries like this one are hard on anyone who was affected by 9/11, Shirley says of the 15-year mark. Shay echoes this sentiment. As the years pass and more anniversaries come and go, it just gets harder, she says.
